枕崎駅では折り返し迄の時間を使って駅前を少し見てみる。コンビニがなく、代わりに2階建ての、地方によくある小型のスーパーがあった。インストアベーカーリーもあって、そこで昼食代わりにパンを２つ買う。他にドラッグストアもあったが、果たしてどれだけの売上が見込めるものか。枕崎駅には大昔私鉄が接続していたはずだけれど、廃線跡の気配はどこにも感じられなかった。駅舎自体昨年に新築されたばかりで、駅前の整備は未だ終わらず、であった。（日記より）
