指宿枕崎線は鹿児島市内では時間帯が中途半端にも関わらず結構乗り込んできていた。指宿を過ぎ、開聞岳を眺めるころにはほとんど観光客だけになってしまい、それ以外の人は春休みで帰省してきた学生らしき客が多かったようである。（日記より）
