鹿児島中央駅には19時半頃の到着。地図上は歩ける距離だったけれど、夜で暗く、初見の街を迷わず歩く自信がなかったので市電に乗車する。ホテルは電停から歩いて2、3分のところにあった。チェックインして洗濯物をコインランドリーへ入れ、コンビニへ夕食を買いに行く。コインランドリーは洗濯物の量に運転時間が長すぎたらしく、洗濯物を取り出そうとして危うく火傷するところであった。（日記より）
